Fishing DAYZ is a local day's fishing on the first Saturday of every month. We meet for breakfast at the Waffle House on Holcomb Bridge Road and Old Alabama Road at 7 AM. Anglers should plan to depart at 8 AM sharp for our destination.
Casting and fishing instruction will be available to anyone interested. No experience is necessary. We'll team you up at breakfast with a mentor.
Wade fishing and floating groups will be coordinated the morning of the trip at breakfast. If you are interested in floating, bring your pontoon. If you're short on equipment, let us know and we'll do our best to get you outfitted.
Plan on fishing the day. Pack a lunch or snack and bring something to drink.
We'll be fishing the Chattahoochee Tailwater often since it's our closest stream. If our scheduled spot gets blown out because of rain or water releases, plan on moving upstream or to Smith Creek at Unicoi State Park in Helen as a back-up. Smith Creek fishes well in all but the heaviest of downpours. Changes to our back-up location will be announced at breakfast.
Locations for Fishing DAYZ are selected with the following in mind:
- An easy drive from Roswell GA.
- Large enough to provide wade fishing for 10 to 12 anglers.
- Comfortable wading and open casting.
- Adequate parking available.
- Space for casting instruction.
During the Delayed Harvest season we'll have a preference for those sections. Once Trout Season opens we'll explore other areas. In Dog Days of August, plan on a run down to Callaway Gardens for trophy bream fishing.
Remember that there is a $3 daily parking fee in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA). You can also purchase an annual pass on the CRNRA website for $25 or call the Island Ford Visitor Contact Station at 678-538-1200.
Fishing DAYZ is an opportunity for those both new and familiar with fly fishing to get together and enjoy a day's fishing and each other. For more information contact Mark MacDonald at fishingdayz@ucctu.org or (770) 789-2792
